Medical Microneedling SkinPen
Medical microneedling (or collagen induction therapy, as it is also known) is an advanced skin treatment which uses needles to penetrate the skin to stimulate natural collagen production.
Collagen is a protein found in many parts of the body, including the skin where it acts as the scaffolding, providing support to prevent the skin from sagging. Unfortunately, from our early 20’s, our natural collagen levels fall, and we develop fine lines and wrinkles. This fantastic treatment helps to rebuild and replace the body’s natural collagen, resulting in more firm, supple and youthful looking skin.
Microneedling can be performed on all areas of the body including the face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, back and abdomen. It is very effective in treating visible signs of aging as well as stretch marks, cellulite, enlarged pores, acne, scarring and hyperpigmentation. As there is no increased sensitivity to the sun, the treatment can be performed all year round and on all skin types.
In our clinic we use the SkinPen automated needling service. It is the only FDA-approved microneedling device available on the market, which means it has the highest safety profile. With a single-use cartridge for each client, there is no risk of cross-contamination.
The treatment typically lasts between 30-45 minutes depending on the area treated. Your skin will be cleansed and a topical anaesthetic cream will be applied prior to the treatment taking place. During the procedure you may feel a sensation of stinging, however this is typically mild and well-tolerated. It is normal for the skin to appear red and for there to be areas of pinpoint bleeding. This typically settles down within 48 hours. Following the procedure, a hydrating sheet mask will be applied to soothe the skin, followed by a moisturiser to promote wound healing.
